Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
